FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
Which disciplines are on offer?
As we are a queer club, we do not differentiate between genders in our tournament – neither in the singles tournament, the doubles tournament nor the ribbon tournament. It therefore doesn’t matter whether 2 women, 2 men or a mixed couple sign up. Everyone plays together. We only differentiate between singles and doubles according to the level of play.
Which level should I register for?
This is a hobby/leisure tournament. Levels A, B and C are offered to reflect the differences in performance. The following table will help you with the categorisation:
Level | Level of play | (tournament) experience |
A | High | A lot, e.g. participation in points/league play |
B | Medium | Medium |
C | Low | Little/none |
We ask you to assess yourself honestly so that we can guarantee fair play at all levels. If you have already won a medal at a comparable tournament, for example, please rate yourself one level higher.
What is a ribbon tournament?
A ribbon tournament is characterised by a relaxed and fun atmosphere in which the social aspect takes centre stage. Here are the main features of a ribbon tournament:
- Pairings: The participants play against each other in alternating pairings. The partners and opponents are allocated at random. This ensures that the players play with many different partners and opponents.
- Ribbons: The name ‘ribbon tournament’ comes from the fact that players attach a ribbon to their racket or clothing for every game they win. The more games a player wins, the more ribbons they collect.
- Aim: Unlike in competitive tournaments, the focus here is not on winning, but on taking part, enjoying the game and socialising. In the end, the player with the most ribbons wins, but having fun and socialising are the real goals.
- Flexibility: A ribbon ournament is particularly suitable for players of all levels, as the alternating partners and opponents allow for a balanced and fair game. Beginners can learn from experienced players and a pleasant atmosphere is created.
- Game mode: The game mode is called ‘MonsterDYP’. More info here.
Which game mode is played?
- Singles and doubles tournament: probably group phase followed by a knockout phase
- Loop tournament: ‘MonsterDYP’. More info here.
More information will be shared approx. 1 week before the tournament starts.
